Senior Architect

Genworth Financial, Richmond, VA (Apr 2008 to Present)

Genworth is working on Business Process optimization for Annuity New Business (ANB) to improve the customer (financial advisor) experience, and reduce the cycle time of processing the application. Existing work flow is all tasks driven and proposed workflow is case driven to improve Financial Advisor (Customer) experience. This solution will also reduce the user interfaces for case manager and provide a single user interface for case processing.

Major Accomplishments

  • Collaborated with key stakeholders and internal teams to document current operational Environment and blue print of proposed solution. Defined standards and guidelines for development and low level designers.

  • Reviewed and translated non functional business requirements into systems qualities. Applied design strategies and patterns to obtain high flexibility, maintainability, scalability, availability, and reusability.

  • Created use cases and prototypes of the proposed solution and reviewed the same with business. This helped to fill some of gaps in requirement document.

  • Decomposed application into modules and seven tiers (presentation, business services, workflow, Integration, Data Access and Data layers). I managed multiple accounts/customers on a day. It includes traveling to customer place, meeting the business and technical resources, understanding the business/technical problem and providing solutions for their problems.

Major Accomplishments

  • Demonstrated the best practices of Message Broker to Excellus, Insurance Company. Analyzed their code, provided best practices and performance improvement techniques which improved the customer satisfaction for Excellus with IBM.

  • Organized and delivered Integration Architecture Workshop for Bureaus Veritas. Architected a feasible solution for their integration problems using Websphere processer and Adapters. Provided them with best practices on usage of the product.

  • Designed and demonstrated a solution using websphere registry and repository on SOA governance for a Health Insurance company. Customer is impressed with the solution and purchased IBM products. Engaged with customer in successful implementation of solution.

  • I involved with a consolidation effort of Application Servers for Banking Company. I provided a solution for consolidation and virtualization of their heterogeneous environment. This helped customer to save millions of dollars on maintenance and licensing costs. This solution also helped them to prioritize the traffic to their existing applications providing high Quality of Service.

  • Designed and implemented a High availability solution for a web retail customer to make their web applications highly available. I made sure there is no single point of failure. The solution includes software load balancing and failover.

In this process I analyzed their business problems and provided solution to monitor and optimize their business process using IBM’s BPM suite of products. This helped customer to identify the bottlenecks in the business process and reduce the business cost and increase the revenue generation.

  • Organized and delivered Training on BPM (Modeler, WPS/WID/ESB, Business Monitor and Registry Repository) and Datapower to customers. This helped customers to understand the SOA offering from IBM. Development Lead and Architect

Architecting and Lead the efforts of building the ESB Integration Hub for the General Motors. This Integration Hub is a gateway for all the GM’s performing supplier to exchange the change, problem, configuration and capacity info with GM. This is played one of the key roles in reducing the company’s cost by over $10M dollars annually and brings down the down time of the GM Systems by 75%.

Major Accomplishments

  • Leading a team of 7 in implementing Incident Management (IIM). I have so far successfully implemented Incident Management (PS), Change management and Configuration management domains. All the domains are implemented in time and budget, without compromising the quality of the product.

  • Architected and implemented the framework for the Hub. This framework is been inherited / duplicated for all the domains. This helped in reducing the development cost with all domains.

  • Interacted with GM and the performing suppliers to understand their needs and provided the solutions for all their problems. I went beyond the scope in solving the technical issues with the performing suppliers in implementing the interface to Hub. I earned a high customer satisfaction from both GM and performing suppliers.

  • Installed and configured the Development environment (WAS, ND, WMB, MQ) for this project. This environment is then replicated in production by steady state team.

  • Prepared and delivered the documents ranging from the Architecture document to detailed design documents for all the domains.

  • Provided technical guidance to team whenever they experienced problems with Webpshere Message Broker/MQ.

Technical Leader

IBM, Rochester, NY (Apr 2001 to Jan 2005)

Lead and participated in cross-functional effort of building eBusiness Network Outsourcing package, ranging from version 1.0 to current version 5.7.1. Functionality of this product ranges from Circuit provisioning, Asset Management, Auto discovery of the device all the way to Registering a port and requesting an IP address for the server.

Major Accomplishments

  • Architected a solution to implement the SOA on eNos to make it more flexible and interoperable with other applications. This helped other applications to be integrated with eNos with less effort.

  • Sized and Negotiated a 100K$ with EMEA customer for security updates to eNos. Provided a solution to fit it in the budget and timeframe with high customer satisfaction. Lead a Team of 3 members to successfully implement this solution in time and on budget.

  • Provided a solution to replace the xml extender in DB2 with Java UDF\'s, which allowed the system to be deployed in zLinux. This saved the company like 0.5M $ annually on support costs.

  • Sized, Negotiated and Lead the Automation of IP Address Request and Port Registration process (1M$ dollar project). Provided a solution which is a wizard based web interface for Add/Mod/Deleting a Static IP\'s. This interacts with third party tool to assign the IP address to the user. Turn around time was down to 20 minutes from 2-3 days.

  • Migrated system architecture from Visual Basic to a J2EE implementation, getting rid of all the server licensing and support costs saving 50k$ every year for the company. The final product was a system that was more scalable, highly available, redundant, and more fault tolerant that our previous architecture.

  • Implemented Design Patterns in eNOS for better performance and scalability of the application. This reduced the development time by at least 25% on redundant codes.

  • Provided a solution to physically turn the ports on/off in Devices (Switches and routers) installed at customer site. This is all done using a Web interface. This brought the turn around time from 2days (Manual) to 10-15 minutes.

  • Using Rational (purify, quantify) and Tivoli tools, I investigated the performance problems. Documented and lead the team of 4 members to implement the fixes, resulted in better performance of eNOS. This not only improved the performance by 35% but also brought back a high customer satisfaction.

  • Went beyond our Team to resolve and improve the performance issues with other teams. Provided a technical solution for the performance issues that peer team was facing for more than a month. This helped them to implement the project.

  • To transition all sites in USA and EMEA to eNos I designed and developed the Auto-Discovery and Data Loading tool, which physically detects the device and loads the attributes into eNos using MIB files. This tool also accepts data from external tools (Cisco and Netview). This led the eNos to be recognized as Global Asset Management Tool for IBM.

  • Developed a plug-in for Websphere Application Developer tool to generate a beans for given database and table object. This reduced the development cycle.
